Hlíf Sigurjónsdóttir violin and
Povl Christian Balslev piano
The first Icelandic violinist to be classically trained was
Þórarinn Guðmundsson (1896−1979). After his studies
in Denmark he returned to Iceland 1913, where he taught and performed the violin.
Pieces from his repetoire and works by him will be performed, some of which on
a violin he favored.

Nina Rota and Ennio Morricone. These works offer various nuances for which the
composers are well known. Also premiered "Melódía" by
Steingrímur Þórhallsson, inspired by the works of

Kristján Jóhannesson and pianist Cole Knutson perform
Schwanengesang (Swan Song) by Franz Schubert.
Swan Song D 957 is a collection of 14 songs by Franz Schubert,
which he composed in 1828, shortly before his death, to poems by Ludwig Rellstab,
Heinrich Heine and J.G, Seidl.
Kristján Jóhannesson studied here in Iceland and at
the Vienna Academy of Music, and now sings at the Opera in St. Gallen in Switzerland.
Cole Knutson is a Canadian pianist and saxophone player currently
furthering his studies at the Liedzentrum Liedakademie in
Heidelberg.

Violist Svava Bernharðsdóttir,
violinist Hlíf Sigurjónsdóttir and
violinist Herdís Anna Jónsdóttir
give talks about the unique period, late 19th early 20th century,
when music resounded all over Suður-Þingeyjarsýsla,
North Iceland. Known are more than 120 violins in the area and
numerous people knew how to play them.
