Summer evening
by the ocean
in Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum next Tuesday evening
at 20:30. Tenor Einar Clausen and pianist Lenka Mátéová
perform Icelandic and foreign folk-songs and other compositions from various
times and areas.
Due to great demand the concert will be repeated Wednesday August 19th at
the same time
Tenor Einar
Clausen studied at the Reykjavík Academy of Singing and
Vocal Arts with Ólöf Kolbrún Harðardóttir.
He has also attended numerous master classes with David L. Jones, Ian Partridge,
Helene Karusso and Alex Ashworth.
Einar has appeared with a wide variety of choirs and ensembles, e.g. Voces
masculorum, the choirs of Langholt Church, Schola Cantorum and Hljómeyki.
He is also a founding member of the male voice quartet Út í
vorið. He has performed as a soloist with numerous choirs and orchestras.
Einar has sung the role of the swan in Carl Orff´s Carmina Burana, the tenor
role in Josef Haydn´s Theresien Messe and in Misa Criolla and Navidad Nuestra
by Ariel Ramirez, the Evangelist in Johann Sebastian Bach´s St. Matthew
Passion, and the baritone roles in Gabriel Fauré´s Requiem and John
Rutter´s Mass of the Children. In addition Einar has premiered music by
composers John Speight and Gunnsteinn Ólafsson.
Born in Czechoslovakia, Lenka Mátéová completed
cantor diploma from the Kromeriz Conservatory in Prague and earned her Masters
degree at the Prague Academy of Music. During her studies she received several
awards for her performance. In 1990 she moved to Stöðvarfjörður
village, East Iceland and since 1993 she has resided and performed in the
Reykjavík area, as a cantor of Fella og Hólakirkja church
and Kópavogskirkja church.
Lenka has also participated in chamber and choir music in Iceland, as well as
pursuing her solo career. In addition to her church performances, she frequently
accompanies (organ/piano) the Reykjavík Mail Choir, the Reykjavík
Boys Choir and the Hljómeyki Ensemble, in Iceland and abroad, as well as
in recordings for radio and CD.
